A hard-working Green Schools committee of teachers, pupils and parents was established in 2017 in the pursuit of achieving our first Green Flag for Litter and Waste. The school made huge improvements with regard to recycling in our school and each room in the school now has a general waste bin and a recycling bin. The children know exactly what goes into each bin and share this knowledge with parents and families at home. We were awarded a grant through the Litter Less Campaign in 2017 also which allowed us to purchase litter pickers, rubbish carts, high-viz vests and gloves for our pupils. These are used regularly to clean up the school and the local environment. The committee also created a Green Code and all children in the school are familiar with it.

In May 2019 we were awarded our first Green Flag. Ms McKenna, Ms Kaminski and two pupils from the school attended the prize-giving ceremony in the Helix, DCU and proudly accepted our Green Flag and certificate. We cannot wait to fly our flag proudly outside our new school!

This year, Mr Hughes and some children from second class continue check and empty the recycling bins each week. We will begin working on our second flag for Energy when we are settled in our new school. Watch this space!
